Priyanka Kotamraju, a Sociology doctoral candidate and Gates Scholar at Sidney, is to appear on a panel to discuss author, journalist and activist Saumya Roy’s new book ‘Mountain Tales’ at an online public event hosted by the LSE International Inequalities Institute (III).

Priyanka will be in conversation with Dr George Kunnath, a Research Fellow at the LSE, and Saumya Roy to discuss Samuya’s new book, Mountain Tales, which explores the "noxious and wonderful world" of Maximum City's rising mountains of garbage and the waste pickers who trawl through them.  The towering garbage mountains are reflections of modern India and provide a window into local and global inequalities that arise from overconsumption, pollution, climate change and poverty.

Priyanka is a journalist from India, with nearly a decade of experience in the media industry, and focused on issues of social justice, gender and inequality. Priyanka was part of the inaugural cohort of the Atlantic Fellows for Social and Economic Equity programme in 2017-18.

The free online event, ‘Mountain Tales: love and loss in the municipality of castaway belongings’, was scheduled to take place on Thursday 2 December but will now be rescheduled to take place in January 2022. Details about how to attend will be added to the LSE website.
