Sidney's close-knit community, stunning grounds and fantastic city centre location are just a few reasons why our students love Sidney.

Sidney Sussex packs in everything that you might hope to find in a Cambridge College; a welcoming and supportive community, rich history, beautiful gardens and buildings and a fantastic city centre location. The majority of our accommodation is conveniently located within College grounds, or very close by. The closeness of our accommodation and facilities keeps our community together, allowing us to easily collaborate, support one another and make an impact.

Sidney is right in the heart of Cambridge. Our students instantly become immersed in the bustling student atmosphere of the city.

Despite our city centre location, within the College walls you'll find a remarkably peaceful space where you can explore Sidney's biodiverse gardens, get down to some study, hang out with friends and eat in the beautiful dining hall or modern cafeteria.

Sidney has a well-stocked library and computer suite, squash court, gym, a student-run bar, several music practice rooms, and access to some of the best outdoor sports facilities in Cambridge.

Everyone at Sidney plays their part in making the Sidney experience so special and supportive; our Admissions Office are passionate about access and widening participation, our Fellows nurture a fruitful intellectual life through the Sidney Greats lecture series, our Students’ Union strive to ensure students feel at home, our Pastoral team provide ongoing support to help our students flourish, our award-winning chefs cook up tasty and nutritious meals on a daily basis, our team of gardeners maintain the stunning grounds with a drive to encourage biodiversity, and our alumni and supporters provide the College with the means to make an impact today, tomorrow and in the years to come.

Our focus on helping you to achieve

The ethos of the College is all about achieving to the best of your potential, and you'll find that we'll give you every support in doing this.

We have a structured learning skills programme to help develop your study and revision techniques, while supervisions give you the opportunity to develop and debate your ideas with your fellow students and academics.

Our varied programme of extra-curricular talks and lectures (including the Sidney Greats lecture series) adds to the environment, and makes Sidney a place where bright and ambitious students flourish.

Our small and inclusive student body

The atmosphere at Sidney is warm and friendly, and this charming College is well known throughout Cambridge for our strong sense of community. We admit around 105 undergraduates each year, and have around 350 undergraduates and 275 postgraduates at any one time.

Students at Sidney are autonomous in many areas of College life, and all students are represented by an active students’ union. There is also ample opportunity to organise and participate in various sports clubs, music and drama societies, providing plenty of opportunities to meet students in other subjects and year groups. Our smaller size means that we value participation, and whatever your level, there will be a team or club keen to have you involved.

Our city centre location

We're right in the centre of Cambridge, close to University faculties and departments, and with shops, restaurants, cafes and bars all around. Despite our peaceful setting and large tranquil gardens, we have Cambridge right on our doorstep.

Our excellent food

The quality of food at Sidney is well known, and our chefs have won numerous awards. Most students choose to eat in the College dining hall or modern cafeteria at least once a day - as well as providing a good value meal, it's an opportunity to meet friends and plan the rest of your day. Most meals are self-service, and there's always a wide choice of hot and cold meals covering a range of dietary requirements and needs. Three times a week there is a more formal option, where a three-course dinner is served. These are popular occasions for inviting friends from other Colleges.
