Sidney Sussex College is located in the historic heart of Cambridge and being one of the smaller Cambridge Colleges, is renowned for its warm and welcoming atmosphere and friendly community.

Founded in 1596 by Lady Frances Sidney, Countess of Sussex, the College is home to a diverse and dynamic community of around 355 undergraduate students, 275 postgraduate students, 80 Fellows and 100 assistant staff.

The Role

The College is seeking to recruit an exceptional Head Chef to be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the kitchen operation and leading a team of chefs to achieve the highest possible standards of dining for our students, Fellows, staff, and guests.

A major multimillion pound refurbishment of the College Kitchens, Old Dining Hall and the Mong Hall was completed in July of this year.  This is therefore an exciting time to be part of a new kitchen set up and be at the forefront of further raising the overall standards of the food and service to the highest level.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of delivering excellent standards of cuisine and have a passion and flair for producing and presenting food at the very highest possible level.  They will be experienced in both modern and classical cuisine using the best use of fresh, seasonal ingredients.  They should be experienced in both stock control and budget management and be a problem solver and great communicator.

This is a full-time role, currently 40 hours per week and is responsible to the Domestic Bursar.  The ability and willingness to adopt a flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends is expected, and you may be required to work additional hours from time to time in order to fulfil the requirements of the role and the needs of the College.

The starting salary for this position is from £40,000 per annum and will be discussed at the interview stage.  In addition, the College offers an annual leave entitlement of 25 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays; an excellent contributory pension scheme provided by the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS), free College meals when on duty and subsidised membership of the College’s gym facilities.
