This virtual event will explore the origins, influence, and future of Black Lives Matter, the organisation that, more than any other, has put the issue of racial justice back at the centre of American politics.

The event is being sponsored by the Cambridge American History Seminar, whose home base is Sidney Sussex College. Three US-based experts on African-American politics will speak:

  • Jamelle Bouie, Columnist for The New York Times
  • Elizabeth Hinton, Associate Professor of History & African American Studies and Professor of Law, Yale University
  • Christopher J. Lebron, Associate Professor of Philosophy, Johns Hopkins University

The seminar will occur virtually at 5.00 pm on Monday 16 November. Anyone from the Sidney community wishing to attend may contact Gary Gerstle, Mellon Professor of American History and Vice-Master of Sidney Sussex, at glg34@cam.ac.uk, or Jonathan Goodwin, at jmg216@cam.ac.uk.
